Here is a selection of the questions we are frequently asked:

Are pets allowed? No, it is not permitted to bring pets to El Refugio. PS. But we do get regular visits from mountain goats, many (predatory) birds, countless beautiful insects and not to forget our own cat Rayo!

Can you easily drive to you by car? Yes, the road to our village Alcaucín rises steadily from the coast without too many hairpin bends. After passing Alcaucín, you continue towards 'El Alcázar'. After 1.5 km, turn left onto an unpaved road. Follow this road until the end (500m) and then turn sharply left onto the driveway of El Refugio! Is smoking allowed? Yes, smoking is permitted outside on the grounds, but please consider other guests and use the ashtrays provided. Smoking is not allowed in the guest rooms or common areas.

Do you cook for guests? Yes, we do so regularly, but not every evening as standard. We do this based on request and in consultation with the guests. You can find more information about this on our page: 'food and drinks'.

How far is El Refugio from Alcaucín? The village - with a few restaurants and bars - is a 5-minute drive from El Refugio. You can also walk there in 25 minutes. The return journey takes a bit longer as you have to climb back up.

What are the check-in and check-out times? Check-in at El Refugio is possible from 4 p.m. Check-out is until 11 a.m. Feel free to inquire about options for an earlier check-in time or later check-out due to an early or late flight. However, we do charge a surcharge on top of the room rate for this.

Do you have problems with mosquitoes or other insects? Despite being located in the 'Campo' (the countryside), we fortunately don't have much trouble with mosquitoes or flies. Moreover, all windows in the guest rooms are fitted with screens. However, during certain periods, we do get some (more) visits from wasps. Thankfully, we have learned many tricks to minimize any potential nuisance caused by them.
